Dental Material Applications – Crowns, Bridges, Implants and Provisionals

Dental Materials / Applications

Applications

Where each material line is used across the dental laboratory workflow — from the digital impression through to the finished, polished restoration.

Dental materials are specified by workflow position, not by category. A laboratory does not buy “ceramic” and “polymer”; it buys the blank that produces a posterior crown, the blank that holds a provisional for nine months, the wax that survives burnout and the stone that keeps the die accurate. This page maps each of our lines onto the point in the workflow where it does its job.

Restorative Workflow

Step 1

Model and Die

Gypsum Models — Type III for study and check models, Type IV die stone for working casts, Type V for implant-level precision. The expansion you accept here propagates into every restoration that follows.

Step 2

Design and Mill

Zirconia Blocks and PMMA Resins — the definitive and provisional blanks, milled in the Green or soft state, dimensioned for open CAD/CAM systems.

Step 3

Sinter and Fit

Sintering per the grade curve, then seating on the die. Shrinkage compensation and die accuracy meet at this step — errors from both ends compound.

Step 4

Finish and Polish

Burs & Polishing — diamond grits in sequence on zirconia, carbide on PMMA, then the three-step zirconia polish to restore the sintered surface.

Parallel

Casting and Press

CAD/CAM Wax — milled patterns for lost-wax casting and press-technique frameworks. Grade matched to the burnout schedule of the investment in use.

Provisional and Try-In

PMMA Resins — the restoration the patient wears while the definitive work is made, in a shade close enough to the final ceramic that the approval step is straightforward.

Typical Indications

IndicationRecommended materialNotes
Posterior single crownZirconia HTHighest occlusal load per unit; opacity is not clinically visible at posterior sites.
Anterior single crownZirconia HS or ML650 MPa is ample for a single unit; translucency drives the clinical result.
Multi-unit posterior bridgeZirconia HTConnector stress concentration is the governing constraint.
Implant abutment and crownZirconia HT + Type V modelThe tightest tolerance stack in the workflow — both ends matter.
Full-arch frameworkZirconia HTSpan and connector geometry set the requirement.
Temporary crown or bridgePMMA temporaryService life 1–12 months; prioritise millability and shade match.
Long-term provisional (implant)PMMA long-termUp to 24 months; water absorption and colour stability are the limiting factors.
Diagnostic and try-inCAD/CAM wax or PMMAWax for casting patterns, PMMA where the patient will see and wear it.
Lost-wax casting patternWax blue / red / greenGrade matched to the melting point required by the investment system.

End Users We Supply

Primary

Dental Laboratories

Production laboratories milling zirconia and PMMA at volume, needing consistent lots and predictable shrinkage factors across repeat orders.

Primary

Milling Centres

Centralised milling services producing for multiple practices, where blank availability and specification stability drive the purchasing decision.

Secondary

OEM and Private Label

Brands and distributors selling blocks and consumables under their own label, needing production on a documented quality system.

Serving clinics with in-house milling? The same lines apply — the difference is pack size. We supply smaller blank quantities and assortment kits so a chairside milling setup is not holding more inventory than it consumes.
